The concept of playing an instrument such as the flute or saxophone without any other accompanying musicians or backing tracks is not a new one. Back in ancient China there are many mysterious stories of the solo flautist. In European folklore we have the Pied Piper of Hamlin doing his rodent trick. Some modern day instrumentalists, both in the jazz & classical field have successfully expressed themselves by performing unaccompanied. So it is fair to assume that the sound of a single wind instrument is nothing new or avant-garde but a tradition that can be traced back thousands of years. Maybe an insatiable desire for the electronic world has cast a shadow of volume over the gentle and haunting sound of these two romantic instruments which require nothing but the breath and imagination of a live musician.

Pete Lowe has created both his unique concert and compositions around this simple and traditional musical form.
